Founding Partner
Described in The Legal 500 Asia Pacific as a lawyer who “could provide definitive answers with conviction on his toes”, our founding partner, Abang Iwawan, has an active front-end project development practice and regularly represent clients in key forms of dispute resolution in the construction sector including adjudication and arbitration. He regularly assist clients in delivering complex infrastructure projects throughout the project life cycle and has acted in disputes involving major infrastructure projects across Asia, Europe, Middle East and Africa.
lwawan also has extensive experience in commercial disputes having acted in complex commercial matters involving insider trading and market manipulation.
Iwawan regularly writes and contributes to publications, including the Malaysian Civil Procedure (White Book), and is frequently invited to speak at conferences in the areas of construction law, arbitration, and human rights. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK) and holds numerous committee appointments, including President of the Young Society of Construction Law Malaysia, Chair and Head of the Malaysian Bar Council Human Rights Empowerment Working Group, and General Committee Member of The Malaysian Middle Temple Alumni Association.
Prior to setting up Abang & Co, Iwawan practiced at one of the largest law firms in Malaysia.

Representing and advising a Project Delivery Partner on various issues arising from the construction of a project worth in excess of RM16 billion, including resisting claims made by its Work Package Contractors and Consultants.
Representing a subsidiary of a Fortune Global 500 company in statutory adjudication under the Construction Industry Payment and Adjudication Act 2012 against a Malaysian company in relation to the construction of a Cogen Power Plant in Johor.
Representing a Kazakhstan-based oil and gas contractor in court proceedings against a Malaysian public listed company for the enforcement (and resisting the setting aside) of arbitral awards rendered at the London Court of International Arbitration.
Representing and advising a Fortune Global 500 company in a dispute arising from the construction of a railway project in the Middle East.
Advising a Malaysian independent power producer on issues arising from the construction of its Coal-Fired Power Plant including boiler tube failures and its coal handling system.
Representing a leading Asian infrastructure conglomerate in court proceedings against a Malaysian company in a dispute arising from the termination of the infamous “crooked bridge” project between Johor and Singapore.
